Joe Rogan and Sage Steele’s Podcast Flub: A Lesson in Humility
It’s not often that we see two big names in the sports world come together for a podcast, but that’s exactly what happened when UFC CEO Dana White appeared on Sage Steele’s podcast. However, things took an unexpected turn when Steele made a mistake that left both White and Joe Rogan, one of the world’s most popular podcasters, in stitches.
During the interview, Steele asked White, “What’s Joe Rogan’s dream?” This caused confusion for White, who responded, “Joe Rogan’s dream?” It was then that Steele realized her mistake and corrected herself, asking, “What’s Dana White’s dream?”
But the damage was already done. White couldn’t help but laugh at the mixup, exclaiming, “She just called me f****** Joe Rogan!” Rogan, who was listening in on the podcast, couldn’t help but empathize with Steele’s mistake.
“I’ve been called Dana before,” Rogan shared on his own podcast, the JRE MMA podcast. “Some dude goes, ‘Yo, Dana!’ I’m like, ‘No, I’m the other dude. I’m Joe.’ It happens all the time.”
Rogan went on to explain that he understands the pressure of conducting a high-profile interview and how it can lead to mental flubs. He even praised Steele for not editing out the mistake in post-production, saying, “She handled it the right way. She kept it in there. It’s funny. It’s just a flub. I’ve done it all the time. It happens. People f*** up.”
But it wasn’t just Steele who made the mistake. UFC contributor and former welterweight champion Matt Serra also shared a similar experience, where fans mistook him for either White or Rogan at UFC events.
“They always think he’s either Joe or Dana,” fellow UFC contributor Din Thomas chimed in with a smile.
A Lesson in Humility
This podcast flub serves as a reminder that even the biggest names in the sports world are human and make mistakes. It’s easy to get caught up in the glitz and glamour of the industry, but at the end of the day, we’re all just people trying to do our best.
Steele’s mistake also highlights the pressure and nerves that come with conducting a high-profile interview. It’s not easy to think on your feet and come up with the perfect question, especially when you’re talking to someone as influential as Dana White.
But perhaps the most important lesson we can take away from this is the importance of owning up to our mistakes. Steele could have easily edited out the mixup in post-production, but she chose to keep it in and laugh at herself. In a world where image is everything, it’s refreshing to see someone embrace their imperfections and show a little humility.
So the next time you make a mistake, remember this podcast flub and don’t be too hard on yourself. After all, even the best of us get mistaken for someone else sometimes.
