Demetrious Johnson Proves Size Doesn’t Matter at BJJ Pan-Ams

Former UFC champion and current ONE Championship titleholder Demetrious Johnson recently competed at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Pan American Championship, and he did not disappoint. Johnson, who is known for his speed and technique in the cage, showed that he is just as formidable on the mats.

In the 154.6 pound Masters division, Johnson dominated his opponents and took home the gold medal. But it was his performance in the openweight tournament that truly impressed onlookers. Despite being significantly smaller than his opponents, Johnson held his own and even medaled in the competition.

One of his opponents, Michael Sante Medina, who weighed in at 248 pounds, praised Johnson’s skills and strength. “Keeping that dude still is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. He’s rough,” Medina said after their match.

Johnson’s only loss in the openweight tournament came in the finals, where he was submitted by Brendan Paul Gagnon, who reportedly weighed 215 pounds. But even in defeat, Johnson proved that size doesn’t matter when it comes to skill and determination.

For Johnson, competing in grappling tournaments like the Pan-Ams is a way to stay motivated and inspired in the later stages of his career. And his performance at the event showed that he still has plenty of fight left in him.
