Dricus Du Plessis Asks Fans to Decide His Next Opponent; Robert Whittaker Weighs In

Dricus Du Plessis, the middleweight champion, has turned to the fans to help choose his next opponent, and Robert Whittaker has shared his thoughts on the matter. Du Plessis, with a record of 21-2 in MMA and 7-0 in the UFC, offered fans the choice between a rematch with Israel Adesanya or another showdown with Sean Strickland, the fighter he defeated in a close decision at UFC 297.

Despite fans voting in favor of a rematch with Strickland, who has been vocal about wanting another shot at Du Plessis, Whittaker has expressed doubts about the UFC’s willingness to make that fight happen. Whittaker, with a record of 25-7 in MMA and 16-5 in the UFC, recently rebounded from a loss to Du Plessis with an impressive victory over Paulo Costa at UFC 298.

During an episode of his MMArcade Podcast, Whittaker shared his skepticism about the likelihood of a Du Plessis-Strickland rematch, citing the UFC’s preference for a potential clash between Du Plessis and Adesanya due to their history and storyline. Whittaker, however, is hopeful that Du Plessis will face Adesanya next, clearing the path for him to take on Strickland in the future.
