Brandon Moreno announces break from MMA: ‘I’ve reached a limit in my mind’

Brandon Moreno Takes a Break to Reset

After his split decision loss to Brandon Royval at UFC Mexico City in February, former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno announced that he will be taking a break from MMA. In an eight-minute message on Instagram, Moreno emphasized that he is not retiring, but simply needs some time off after suffering his first two-fight losing streak since 2018.

Moreno, who has been a central player in the UFC flyweight title scene since re-signing with the promotion in 2019, captured the belt twice with victories over Deiveson Figueiredo. However, he dropped the title this past July with a split decision loss to Alexandre Pantoja and lost the opportunity to face Pantoja again with another split decision setback against Royval.

But Moreno’s management has confirmed that this announcement only signals a break from MMA and nothing more.

A Much Needed Rest for the Mind and Body

In an emotional message in Spanish, Moreno expressed his frustration with his recent losses and the constant pressure and media attention that comes with being a top fighter. He stated that he is tired and needs to rest his mind and body, but reassured his fans that this is not a goodbye and he will be back stronger than ever.

Moreno also mentioned that he wants to take a break to spend time with his family and do things that he hasn’t been able to do while fully focused on training. But he made it clear that he still believes he has what it takes to become a champion again and will come back stronger and more determined.

He ended his message by thanking all his supporters and promising to continue fighting and moving forward towards his goal of becoming a champion once again.

A Message of Gratitude and Hope

Moreno’s message not only shows his vulnerability and honesty, but also his gratitude towards his fans and fellow Mexican fighters who have been successful in the UFC. He also expressed his hope for the future of Mexican talent in the promotion.

While Moreno takes a break to reset and recharge, his fans and the MMA community will eagerly await his return to the octagon. And when he does come back, he will have the support and belief of his fans as he continues his journey towards becoming a champion once again.

As Moreno said, this is not a goodbye, but a temporary break. And when he returns, he will be ready to go on a tear and prove that he still has what it takes to be a champion in the UFC.
