Ajax suffer humbling 6-0 defeat to Feyenoord

The clash between Ajax and Feyenoord, known as De Klassieker, is always a highly anticipated fixture in the Dutch league. However, this season, it turned into a nightmare for Ajax as they suffered their biggest ever Eredivisie defeat at the hands of their rivals.

Feyenoord dominated the game from start to finish, with Igor Paixão, Yankuba Minteh, and David Hancko scoring in the first half to give their team a comfortable lead. In the second half, Feyenoord continued their dominance, scoring three more goals in just nine minutes, with Minteh and Paixão adding to their tally and Quinten Timber also finding the back of the net.

“In the break we told each other that we had to dare to play football. But that didn’t happen. It was just men against pupils today,” said Ajax boss John van’t Schip after the game.

The defeat was a humiliating one for Ajax, who are currently in sixth place and a staggering 24 points behind second-placed Feyenoord. This was their eighth loss in the league this season.

Adding to their misery, Ajax had to face Feyenoord without key players such as Jordan Henderson, Steven Berghuis, Diant Ramaj, and Brian Brobbey, who were all out due to injuries. This weakened side proved to be no match for a dominant Feyenoord team, who took 29 shots on goal while allowing Ajax only one.

But the nightmare didn’t end there for Ajax. Just a few days before the game, their chief executive Alex Kroes was suspended for suspected insider dealing, adding to the turmoil surrounding the club.
