Max Verstappen’s Bold Goal: Lighter F1 Cars by 2026 for Intense Racing Thrills!

FIA Announces Changes in F1 Regulations for 2026 Season

The FIA has recently announced changes to the Formula One regulations that will take effect in the 2026 season. While many of these changes are welcomed by drivers, there are concerns about some aspects of the new regulations.

One major change is a reduction in weight, with cars being 30kg lighter compared to the current models. This comes as a relief for drivers, who have been advocating for lighter cars in recent years. However, there are concerns that this could lead to struggles for some teams who are already struggling to meet the minimum weight values.

In an interview with Kosport Magazine, three-time world champion Max Verstappen expressed his concerns about the planned weight reduction. He remarked, “It’s gonna be very tough with how everything is, but let’s see. I mean, even now, some teams are overweight, right? So, to go even 30 kilos less… of course, I know that the dimensions change a little bit, but I’m not sure that 30 kilos will be the perfect scenario.”

When asked if the reduction in weight is enough to provide a more exciting experience for drivers on track, Verstappen stated, “You need at least 100-150kg.” He believes that in order to make the cars more agile and fun to drive, a bigger reduction in weight is necessary. However, he acknowledges that this may not be possible due to engine and battery-related weight restrictions.

Another change in the regulations is the removal of DRS, which will be replaced by active aerodynamics and an electrical override. Verstappen expressed uncertainty about how effective this new system will be, saying, “I don’t know how effective it’s going to be. This is something that I haven’t seen yet, how effective that is going to be.”

In a lighthearted comment, Verstappen even suggested adding items from the popular game Mario Kart to make the races more thrilling. “Maybe we need some bananas, and a red shell…” he joked.

Kosport Magazine’s Take

As the FIA continues to make changes to the Formula One regulations, it is important to strike a balance between safety and excitement for the drivers. While lighter cars and improved aerodynamics may result in more thrilling races, it is crucial to consider the limitations and challenges faced by teams in meeting these requirements. Only time will tell how effective these changes will be in improving the F1 experience for both drivers and fans.
