Ducati Promotes Marc Marquez and Parts Ways with Danilo Petrucci

Kosport Magazine – The five-time MotoGP race winner, Danilo Petrucci, will no longer be part of the Ducati team as it was officially announced on Monday 3 June. The news was first reported by Motorsport.com, revealing that the Italian manufacturer has decided to promote Marc Marquez to its factory team.

While an official announcement from Ducati is yet to be made, it was all but confirmed on Monday evening when Aprilia announced they had signed a multi-year deal with Jorge Martin. This solidified Petrucci’s departure from the team, as there would be no place for him in Marquez’s new role.

Kosport Magazine’s Take: Martin Takes Over and Pierer Mobility Group Makes Changes

In 2025, Martin will enter his fifth season in the premier class where he has claimed five wins, 24 podiums, and nine pole positions. This makes him a strong candidate for Ducati’s second factory team, which he earned after his impressive 2022 season with Gresini.

However, Martin did not live up to expectations at the Italian manufacturer’s works team. This led to his departure and the decision of the Pierer Mobility Group, which manages both the factory KTM team and the works-supported Tech3 GasGas satellite structure, to change their branding strategy and have four RC16s racing in their iconic orange colors.

Changes to KTM’s Lineup and Future Plans

It is rumored that the business group, led by Stefan Pierer, has expressed interest in taking over the two places currently attributed to Herve Poncharal’s team, Tech3. However, Poncharal has not been willing to give them up and it remains uncertain what the future holds for Tech3 under KTM’s new plans.

It is also unclear who will partner Martin at the second KTM team in 2025, as Pedro Acosta’s promotion to the factory team alongside Brad Binder was confirmed last weekend. Jack Miller, who has had a disappointing stint with KTM, is also out of contract at the end of the year, making his future with the team uncertain.

An official announcement regarding Martin’s signing with KTM for the 2025 season is expected soon.

Kosport Magazine’s Take: Changes in the MotoGP Landscape

The departure of Petrucci and Martin’s move to Aprilia, along with KTM’s changes to their lineup and branding strategy, are just some of the changes happening in the MotoGP landscape. As the sport continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these changes will affect the dynamic between manufacturers and teams in the future.
