Perez: Ferrari “not reachable” for F1 rivals in Monaco so far

Leclerc Stuns in Practice for Monaco GP

After a disappointing start to the F1 season, Charles Leclerc has taken the top spot in the second free practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix. The Monegasque driver was just under 0.2 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton and half a second faster than the nearest Red Bull, Max Verstappen.

Red Bull struggled to find performance in their RB20 car, while Ferrari seemed to excel on the tight and bumpy Monaco circuit. Sergio Perez, who drives for Red Bull, praised Ferrari’s ability to “put it on really easily” when it comes to qualifying. He also noted that the team’s strength on a track like Monaco, which heavily rewards qualifying, makes them the favorites for the race.

Kosport Magazine’s Take

Ferrari’s resurgence in Monaco has been impressive, with Charles Leclerc setting the pace in practice. The Italian team looks to be the team to beat this weekend, with their car performing well and Leclerc driving with confidence. It remains to be seen if they can maintain this momentum through qualifying and into the race.

The Mercedes team also showed strong performance in practice, with George Russell commenting that the car felt the best he has ever experienced around Monaco. He even predicted that the lap record will be broken by the 2024 field.

However, both Mercedes drivers, including seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, struggled with their cars’ stability under braking. Hamilton admitted that Leclerc has the advantage heading into Saturday’s sessions. Will it be a Ferrari victory in their home race? Only time will tell.
