Marquez ‘still missing something’ to fight for 2024 MotoGP title

The Rise of Marc Marquez: From Struggling on Ducati to Fighting for the Title

After five rounds on the year-old Ducati, Marc Marquez has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the MotoGP world. Despite starting the season on a new bike and facing some setbacks, Marquez has secured two grand prix podiums and three sprint rostrums.

At the recent French Grand Prix, Marquez faced his toughest challenge yet as he fought back from 13th on the grid. In both races, he finished in second place, just 0.446 seconds behind Jorge Martin. This impressive performance propelled Marquez to third place in the standings, only 40 points behind the current leader.

However, despite his success, Marquez remains humble and believes he still has room for improvement. He admits that he is not yet at the level of the top riders like Martin and his Ducati teammate, Francesco Bagnaia.

“I’m just enjoying. You can see it on my face,” Marquez said in an interview with Kosport Magazine’s After the Flag. “You see all what we have inside the box, the atmosphere is relaxed.”

Despite the pressure to perform, Marquez maintains a positive attitude and takes each race as a learning experience. He acknowledges that there is still work to be done in order to compete for the championship title.

But for now, Marquez is content with fighting alongside the top riders on a Ducati superbike. This successful partnership has caught the attention of some major sponsors, as Ducati nears a decision on who will ride its second factory team bike in 2025.

In an interview with Sky Italy at Le Mans, Marquez shared his desire for a works spec bike in the future, stating that the brand and color do not matter. He is determined to do whatever it takes to be a contender for the championship.

“When I made this decision, I knew that Ducati was the strongest bike,” Marquez explained. “I decided to race with the strongest bike and see what I was capable of doing because even I had the doubt whether I was finished or not. Now, I am competitive.”

As for next year, Marquez has no shortage of offers, but he is determined to secure a works spec bike. And with his impressive performance on the Ducati, it seems that Marquez’s dream may become a reality.
