MotoGP miscalculated Spanish GP attendance by over 100,000 people

The 2024 Spanish Grand Prix: A Record-Breaking Event for MotoGP Fans

Kosport Magazine – 04/30/2024

The 2024 Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez was a highly anticipated event for MotoGP fans, with home favorites Marc Marquez, Jorge Martin, and Pedro Acosta set to battle it out for victory. And the fans did not disappoint, with a reported 300,000 spectators making their way to the circuit to witness the action.

This made the Spanish GP the most-watched MotoGP event in history, surpassing the previous record set by the French Grand Prix in 2023. The atmosphere was electric as fans cheered on their favorite riders, creating an unforgettable experience for all.

But just when we thought the excitement couldn’t get any higher, MotoGP issued a correction late on Monday night. It turns out that the actual attendance number was 181,289, still an impressive figure but not a new record. The French Grand Prix in 2023 still holds the title for the most-attended MotoGP event.

Despite the correction, the 2024 Spanish GP remains the best-attended race at Jerez in almost a decade, continuing the positive trend of audience and attendance figures in the sport. And with the next round at Le Mans set to take place on May 12th, we can expect another packed grandstand and an incredible atmosphere.

MotoGP publicly apologized for the mistake, explaining the error and acknowledging the incredible race weekend in Andalucia. Dorna’s chief commercial officer Dan Rossomondo also shared the same statement on Twitter, expressing his regret for the mistake and the special few days that were missed.

But the 2024 Spanish GP will still go down in history as an all-time classic clash of the titans, with an unforgettable race that will be talked about for years to come. And with the record-breaking attendance at Le Mans in 2023, it’s clear that MotoGP is enjoying a surge in popularity and support.

So let’s continue to celebrate the incredible atmosphere and thrilling races that MotoGP brings us, and look forward to more record-breaking events in the future. See you at the next race!
