Pedro Acosta: The Rising Star of MotoGP
At just 19 years old, Pedro Acosta has taken the MotoGP world by storm. The reigning Moto2 champion made his highly anticipated debut in the premier class this season and has already exceeded expectations.
In his first three races, Acosta finished 9th in Qatar, followed by a podium finish in Portugal with a third place. He then led the Americas GP for a short while before ultimately finishing in second place. With such impressive performances, many are predicting that Acosta will secure his first grand prix win in the near future.
Kosport Magazine caught up with Acosta at the Spanish Grand Prix, where he won in his first Moto3 season in 2021. When asked if he finds it difficult to keep his feet on the ground amidst all the hype, Acosta shared a unique perspective.
“Not too much,” Acosta said. “At the end, I bike every week at home and I see the fishermen trying to take something for it [their work]. I see how real life is and how people are working hard like that. For this, maintaining the feet on the ground [approach] when you see that is quite normal.”
Acosta’s father is a fisherman, and he often trains at home in Mazarron, where he gets a glimpse of “real life” from the hardworking fishermen. This grounding experience helps him stay humble and focused on his goals.
But it’s not just his down-to-earth attitude that sets Acosta apart. KTM test rider Dani Pedrosa, who is making a return to MotoGP this season, has expressed interest in following Acosta on track to see how he performs on the RC16.
However, Acosta has a different plan. “For sure I will follow him,” he said. “You know the experience this guy has in this track, or how much experience this guy has on a MotoGP bike. It’s awesome. Also, when you are talking with him, you are not talking with a ‘normal’ guy or a ‘normal’ rider. You know his mind has history, from his days in 125s and 250s. For this I have much to learn from him than him from me.”
Acosta’s respect for Pedrosa’s experience and knowledge shows his maturity and determination to continue improving as a rider.
As Acosta continues to make waves in the MotoGP world, it’s clear that he is a rising star to watch out for. With his talent, humility, and drive, he is sure to achieve great success in the future.
