The Legendary Niki Lauda’s Burnt Helmet to be Auctioned at Miami GP

Kosport Magazine is proud to announce that the burnt helmet of three-time F1 world champion Niki Lauda will be auctioned at the Miami GP on Saturday, May 4th. This iconic piece of racing history will be on display at the Bonhams|Cars preview tent throughout the race weekend.

Lauda’s helmet holds a special significance as it was worn during his infamous crash at the Nurburgring in 1976. Despite suffering severe burns and respiratory damage, Lauda made a heroic comeback just 40 days later at the Italian GP. This helmet serves as a testament to his determination and courage, and it will forever be a symbol of his legacy as a driver and a champion for driver safety.

The auction will take place directly on the track in front of the podium, with approximately 25 collector cars also being showcased around the Miami Campus for race-going fans to view. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to UNICEF, a charity chosen by the Lauda family.

James Garguilo, Bonhams|Cars automobilia specialist, expressed his privilege in presenting this historically significant helmet and stated, “His unyielding determination and sheer courage altered the trajectory of racing history.”

Other race-worn F1 helmets of legendary drivers such as Gilles Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Jean Alesi, Gerhard Berger, and Eddie Irvine will also be auctioned at the event.

A Legacy That Continues to Make a Difference

Niki Lauda may have passed away in 2019, but his legacy lives on through his family and his contributions to the world of racing. His son, Lukas Lauda, spoke on behalf of the family, saying, “We are delighted that our father’s legacy continues to provide help and assistance to those in most need.”

Lauda’s impact on the sport of F1 goes beyond his three world titles. He went on to run three airlines and manage several F1 teams, including Ferrari, Jaguar, and Mercedes. His story was even retold in the 2013 movie, Rush.

Kosport Magazine is honored to be a part of this auction and to help preserve the memory of Niki Lauda. We hope that this event will not only celebrate his achievements but also raise awareness for the important work that UNICEF does for children worldwide.
