Sauber F1 Team Faces Pitstop Issues in Melbourne
The Sauber F1 Team faced yet another pitstop issue in the Australian Grand Prix, adding to their troubles in the previous races. After wheelnut problems caused lengthy stops for Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, the team made modifications in an attempt to prevent further issues.
However, during the race in Melbourne, Bottas suffered another problem that cost him 28 seconds and robbed him of a chance to score points. The wheelnut popped out of the gun and rolled into the fast lane, posing a potential danger to other cars. This led to a report to the FIA stewards, who imposed a fine on the team for losing control of the wheelnut during the pitstop.
Sauber’s racing director Xevi Pujolar denied that the issue was a result of the team’s modifications since the previous race in Jeddah. He stated that they were confident in their changes and did not expect this problem to occur.
Pujolar admitted that the recurrence of the issue was costly for the team and that they had been facing pitstop problems since the first race of the season. Despite taking measures to contain the issue, it still persisted and affected their performance.
The team is aware that the problem lies with the hardware and is working towards finding a solution. However, Pujolar acknowledged that it may take some time to implement a permanent fix.
Zhou also faced a pitstop delay in Australia, but it was due to a gearbox issue that was part of the team’s changes to driver procedures. The Sauber F1 Team will continue to work on improving their pitstop performance and hopes to have a solution in place for the upcoming race in Suzuka.
