Aston Martin makes offer to poach Newey from F1 rival Red Bull

Aston Martin Makes Bold Move to Lure Legendary Designer Adrian Newey from Red Bull

In the world of Formula 1, there are few names as revered as Adrian Newey. The 65-year-old legendary designer has been a key figure in Red Bull’s championship-winning success since joining the team in 2005. But now, Aston Martin is making a bold move to lure Newey away from his current team and to their own headquarters in Silverstone.

According to sources, Aston Martin chief Lawrence Stroll has offered Newey a big-money contract over the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix weekend. This move is part of Stroll’s ambitious plan to build a team that can rival the likes of Red Bull, Mercedes, and Ferrari for years to come.

Stroll has already made significant investments in creating a state-of-the-art headquarters and attracting top designers from rival teams. He has also secured a works Honda deal for the 2026 regulations era. However, poaching Newey could be the final piece of the puzzle to close the gap to F1’s traditional top teams and entice lead driver Fernando Alonso to stay beyond his expiring contract.

But it’s not just about closing the gap to the top teams. Newey’s potential move to Aston Martin could also be a key factor in convincing world champion Max Verstappen to stay with the team. Verstappen, who is also the subject of interest from Mercedes, has a close relationship with Newey and Honda, who are just 20 miles down the road from Aston Martin’s headquarters.

However, Verstappen is not the only driver whose future could be impacted by Newey’s potential move. Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has admitted that the Dutchman is his number one target to replace Lewis Hamilton, should he decide to leave Red Bull before his contract is up in 2028.

Previous attempts by rival teams to lure Newey away from Red Bull have been unsuccessful. But with the ongoing power struggle between team boss Christian Horner and the Austrian side of the business, and the inner turmoil at Red Bull, the variables that have kept Newey tied to the team may now be changing.

Stroll’s offer to Newey is said to be a lucrative one, which would make him one of the highest-paid designers on the grid. While Newey signed a multi-year contract extension with Red Bull last year and has stated that he has no plans to leave, it remains to be seen if Stroll’s offer will be enough to sway him.

When approached for comment, Aston Martin declined to confirm or deny the reports.
