NFL Receivers Setting New Market Standards
The NFL’s wide receiver market has seen a massive boost this offseason with two star pass-catchers, A.J. Brown and Amon-Ra St. Brown, surpassing Tyreek Hill’s $30 million-per-year benchmark. However, one receiver has been looking for a new deal even before these recent signings.
This receiver is none other than Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins, who is currently 30 years old and coming off a dominant season where he led the NFL in both receiving yards and touchdowns. According to Pro Football Talk, Hill has been seeking a new contract since the end of the 2023 season. The reason for this could be because Hill’s reported $30 million-per-year figure is not entirely accurate. As Mike Florio explains, the final year of his contract is worth a whopping $45 million, making it unlikely for him to see it through in its entirety.
The fact that Hill has already made over $26 million in cash in 2022 and 2023, and is still due to make $19,765,000 in 2024, suggests that a new deal may be necessary for the Dolphins to keep him on their roster.
Kosport Magazine’s Take on the NFL Receiver Market
The recent spate of massive contracts for wide receivers is not surprising, considering the immense talent and production of players like Hill. However, Hill’s case for a new deal has been further reinforced by the recent signing of A.J. Brown to a three-year, $96 million extension with the Philadelphia Eagles.
In his two seasons with the Dolphins, Hill has consistently ranked in the top two in receiving yards and is the first player in NFL history to record multiple seasons of 1,700 receiving yards. His ability to make big plays, with the most receptions of 25+ yards in the last two years, only adds to his value as a top receiver in the league.
