Nets’ guard Dennis Schroder is trying out a new sport this off-season. Instead of basketball, the German native has traded in his basketball shoes for a pair of soccer cleats as he made his professional soccer debut with FC Germania Bleckenstedt on Wednesday.

Schroder played 62 minutes in the club’s 5-1 loss to SC Gottingen 05 and will have his next match against VfL Wahrenholz on June 6. While the result may not have been in his favor, it was surely a thrilling experience for Schroder who has always had a passion for soccer.

Kosport Magazine’s Take:

Schroder’s side gig in the sixth division of German soccer may not lead to a change in his career as an NBA player. The 30-year-old point guard had a successful 2023-24 season split between the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets, averaging 14.0 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.0 rebounds in 80 games.

He has also represented his country well in international competition, leading Germany to a gold medal at the FIBA World Cup last year and earning tournament MVP honors. With a successful basketball career and a promising start in professional soccer, it’s safe to say that Schroder is a multi-talented athlete.
