‘Big weekend of talks and clarity’… Michael Chandler undecided on next move after he says he’s been offered UFC title shot

‘Big weekend of talks and clarity’… Michael Chandler undecided on next move after he says he’s been offered UFC title shot

Michael Chandler was in Vegas this past weekend watching on at UFC 303 and meeting with the UFC brass to discuss his future and the status of his potential fight with Conor McGregor.

Michael Chandler stuck to his word and made an appearance at UFC 303 this past Saturday, despite his scheduled main event against Conor McGregor having fallen through just a few weeks out.

The 38-year-old wasn’t only in ‘Sin City’ to watch the culmination of Alex Pereira vs Jiri Prochazka, he was there to discuss his future with the UFC brass, and things seemingly went well for the brawler.

Michael Chandler claims he was offered lightweight title fight

The Chandler and McGregor saga continues to spiral and unfortunately, there has been no update from the promotion on whether the fight will be re-booked or not.

Having said that, when Dana White was asked this past weekend whether the Irishman would be ready to return in either August, September, or October, the boss replied, “None of the above”, giving at least somewhat of a timeline.

Despite that, ‘Iron’ Mike is under the impression that his fight against ‘The Notorious’ could finally take place at UFC 306, at the Sphere. After his meetings with the UFC this past weekend, Chandler has claimed that he has been offered a lightweight title shot, but will instead wait for McGregor.

“Big, big weekend of talks and clarity. New date loading. I’ve been offered Islam Makhachev in October, but if Conor McGregor’s little pinky toe is ready by September, let’s do the Sphere. Biggest sporting event in history,” Chandler explained on X.

Although he seemed to admit that he would wait for McGregor instead of fighting Islam Makhachev, the 38-year-old went on to aim several tweets at the current champion.

“Good old fashioned passionate American Wrestling beats Sambo all day,” Chandler tweeted at the Russian.

Michael Chandler seems undecided on what he wants next

At the UFC 303 post-fight press conference, Dana White admitted that he would never recommend a fighter sit out and wait for a certain fight, however, Chandler has already been sat out for a considerable amount of time now.

Despite hinting that he would wait for the former two-weight world champion to return, he continued to direct messages at Makhachev, with him seemingly undecided on his next step.

“I’ve been (targeting) your ass for 8 years… good old-fashioned, passionate Mizzou Wrestling beats Dagestani sambo every day of the week.

“I don’t get taken down in the open, I don’t get taken down on the cage… I don’t get taken down, period. #andNEW,” Chandler stated.

‘Iron’ Mike’s tweets did evoke a response from the champion, who said: “You are unreliable dude, one tweet from your master, and you’ll run away. Champ needs a real opponent.”

Chandler isn’t the only one who has been targeting tweets at Makhachev, as Dustin Poirier has also been active on X this past Monday, hinting that he will fight once more before he retires, asking Makhachev for a rematch of their recent UFC 302 main event.

“No thanks. I need new (targets),” the champion simply responded.
