Dustin Poirier provides retirement update as he gears up for ‘The Last Dance’… ‘I just want the blood’

Following his loss against Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 earlier last month, Dustin Poirier hinted that it was likely his final outing, but has since provided a further retirement update.

Dustin Poirier was devastatingly beaten by Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 this past June, losing in his third attempt at becoming the undisputed UFC lightweight champion.

Following the loss, ‘The Diamond’ hinted that it was likely the final fight of his career, with him questioning what else there is left to fight for with him unlikely to earn another title shot.

Dustin Poirier provides retirement update, hints at ‘The Last Dance’

Since then, though, the 35-year-old has seemingly had a change of heart as he has provided a further retirement update on his social media.

Poirier was part of the broadcast team for UFC 303 that took place this past weekend, and after being so close to the action, he seems to have experienced a new lease of life.

This Monday morning, Poirier subtly tweeted, “Uno Mas”, which translates to ‘One more’. This led to fans excitedly replying to the lightweight legend, giving him suggestions for his last fight.

Conor McGregor was scheduled to make his eagerly anticipated UFC return this past Saturday at UFC 303, but he withdrew from his main event against Michael Chandler because of a broken toe.

Since his loss to Poirier back in 2021, in what was his last fight inside the Octagon, the Irishman has continuously hurled abuse at Poirier and his wife online, with Poirier finally retaliating.

‘The Diamond’ went at his former foe, McGregor, tweeting at him: “Hey @TheNotoriousMMA it felt so nice, I did it twice ya bumskie.”

Despite that, it isn’t another money fight that the Louisianan is looking for, as he stated: “I’m cool I don’t need the cash I just want the blood. You throw shots there’s always return fire on my end. Gratata.”

The 35-year-old finished his tweet spree with, “The Last Dance. Let em know.”

Dustin Poirier’s options for his final fight

After admitting he will likely fight one last time, the future Hall of Famer needs his final outing to be a huge one, with there being a few options.

Although he did also tweet at Islam Makhachev stating that if Arman Tsarukyan can’t fight him this year – because of a recent ban – then he would like to rematch the Russian, that is very unlikely.

“If Arman can’t fight let’s go again,” Poirier said.

Justin Gaethje is also admittedly gearing towards the end of his UFC career following his own devastating loss to Max Holloway at UFC 300 earlier this year. He and Poirier have fought twice already, with them both having won once.

That seems like a perfect fight for them both at this stage of their careers, and would be one fans would be salivating over, again.

Colby Covington is someone else Poirier has a historic feud with, which has unfortunately never been able to be settled in the cage. Although ‘Chaos’ has recently called out Charles Oliveira for a big welterweight fight, he has previously called out Poirier.

Poirier wouldn’t have to go through another grueling weight cut and could have his ‘Last Dance’ at welterweight against his former American Top Team teammate.

Whoever ‘The Diamond’ fights, it likely won’t be till the end of the year, as after his UFC 302 loss, Poirier revealed that he broke his nose, and ribs and partially tore his ACL.
