Welcome to the Return of Matheus Nicolau at UFC Vegas 91
After a long wait, Matheus Nicolau is finally making his return to the UFC. The flyweight contender will be headlining UFC Vegas 91 alongside fellow fighter Alex Perez. Both fighters successfully made weight at the official weigh-ins, solidifying their main event status.
Nicolau has been out of action for over a year, with multiple attempts to book a fight against Manel Kape falling through. However, Perez stepped in on short notice to take on Nicolau at UFC Vegas 91.
In his last fight, Nicolau suffered a first-round knockout loss to Brandon Royval in April 2023. On the other hand, Perez has lost three consecutive fights, including a decision loss to Muhammad Mokaev in March.
But the main event is not the only exciting fight on the card. In the co-main event, light heavyweights Ryan Spann and Bogdan Guskov will face off in a highly anticipated matchup. Both fighters successfully made weight, adding to the excitement of their 205-pound tilt.
However, two fighters on the card missed weight on their first attempts. David Onama weighed in at 148.5 pounds, 2.5 pounds over the featherweight limit for his main card bout against Jonathan Pearce. James Llontop also missed weight, tipping the scales at 156.5 pounds for his undercard match against Chris Padilla.
But don’t worry, both offending fighters have forfeited 20 percent of their purses to their opponents and their bouts will proceed as scheduled.
