Karl Williams ready to return to the Octagon after DIY mishap
LAS VEGAS – Karl Williams is finally set to make his return to the UFC after a period on the sidelines due to a self-inflicted injury while attempting some home improvements.
Williams, who holds a 9-1 MMA record with a 2-0 UFC standing, is slated to face Justin Tafa in the heavyweight co-main event at UFC on ESPN 53 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Originally scheduled to fight Junior Tafa, Justin stepped in after his brother had to withdraw due to an injury.
A recent surgery setback delayed Williams’ return to action as he took on various home improvement projects post-surgery, which led to complications.
In a recent interview, Williams shared, “I did a lot of stuff I wasn’t supposed to do after the surgery. I went and built a fence, re-did my bathroom, re-did my closet – which ended up making me have to take longer time off because I ended up re-messing up my surgery because of that.”
The time off gave Williams a new perspective on his career, making him appreciate the opportunity to compete in the Octagon once again.
Now focused solely on his upcoming fight, Williams joked, “I did a very good fence. If anybody needs a fence built, I’ve got you.”
Don’t miss Williams’ comeback fight this weekend at UFC on ESPN 53.
