Corey Seager Returns to Dodger Stadium for First Time Since Departure

It was an emotional night at Dodger Stadium as former star player Corey Seager returned to face his old team as a member of the Texas Rangers. This was Seager’s first time back at the stadium since leaving the Dodgers as a free agent after the 2021 season.

Seager, who remains day-to-day with a left hamstring injury, did not play in the game but described his status as “definitely trending. It’s positive.” He expressed his desire to be out on the field with his new team, saying, “It’s hard not to play every day. You want to be out there with your guys.”

The 30-year-old shortstop made a name for himself in Dodger blue, winning both the 2016 NL Rookie of the Year award and being named to the All-Star team in his first two full seasons. He also led the Dodgers to the 2020 World Series title, earning NL MVP and World Series MVP honors.

The fans at Dodger Stadium gave Seager a warm welcome, cheering loudly as he was introduced before the game. Former teammate Clayton Kershaw even led the applause from the opposing dugout. Seager showed his appreciation by doffing his cap and gesturing to the crowd. A video showcasing Seager’s highlights during his time with the Dodgers was also played.

As he entered the visiting clubhouse, Seager couldn’t help but feel a little confused. He joked, “I had some guys ask me where to go and I didn’t know. It’s been a lot of firsts, for sure.” However, he said he was grateful for the memories he made with the Dodgers, saying, “This organization kind of raised me, kind of made me the man I am today, taught me the game of baseball, made a lot of friends, made a lot of buddies, had a lot of good times out there.”

Seager credited the Dodgers for teaching him how to win and how to do things the right way, saying, “It’s a first-class organization and you try to bring that to another first-class organization.” He also expressed his surprise at winning another championship so quickly with the Rangers, saying, “I don’t know if you ever thought it would be that fast.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had nothing but praise for Seager, calling him a “superstar” and a “very good Dodger.” He also commented on the impact Seager had during his time with the team, saying, “Any team is better with Corey Seager.”

Despite moving on from the Dodgers, Seager was happy to catch up with old friends. For Roberts, the memories of Seager’s time with the team will always be fond ones. As he said, “A very good Dodger.”

Kosport Magazine’s Take:

While Seager may no longer be a Dodger, his impact on the team and the city of Los Angeles will always be remembered. As he returns to face his old team, it’s clear that he is still beloved by the fans and respected by his former teammates. We wish him the best of luck with the Rangers and will always consider him a valuable part of the Dodgers’ history.
