Atlanta Braves Reinstates Catcher Sean Murphy from Injury

The Atlanta Braves are making some roster changes with the reinstatement of catcher Sean Murphy from the 10-day injured list and the placement of star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. on the injured list.
Murphy, who suffered an oblique strain on Opening Day, is returning to the lineup after a successful rehab assignment at Triple-A Gwinnett. The All-Star and Gold Glove winner had a .278 batting average with 2 homers and 4 RBIs during his four-game stint.
The 29-year-old has a career batting average of .239 with 67 home runs and 215 RBIs in 439 games with the Oakland Athletics (2019-22) and the Braves.
Unfortunately, the Braves are also dealing with the loss of Acuña, who tore his left ACL on Sunday and will be out for the remainder of the season. The reigning National League MVP will be a huge loss for the team, but they are hopeful that Murphy and the rest of the lineup will step up in his absence.
In addition to Murphy’s reinstatement, the Braves have recalled outfielder J.P. Martinez from Triple-A Gwinnett and designated infielder Joey Wendle for assignment. Martinez, who made his major league debut with the Texas Rangers last season, has been hitting .265 with three homers, 12 RBIs, and 14 steals in 45 games at Gwinnett this season.
Wendle, who was recently signed by the Braves, did not appear in a game for Atlanta before being released by the New York Mets on May 20.
