Rays Place OF Josh Lowe on 10-Day Injured List

Kosport Magazine – May 25, 2024

The Tampa Bay Rays have announced that outfielder Josh Lowe has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain. The move is retroactive to Thursday, following Lowe’s exit from the game against the Boston Red Sox.

Lowe sustained the injury while taking an awkward swing against Boston starter Brayan Bello in the first inning. He was replaced by Jonny DeLuca in the second inning and will now be sidelined for at least 10 days.

The 26-year-old has been dealing with injuries to his right hamstring, right oblique, and left hip since spring training. Despite this, he has managed to bat .240 with two home runs and three RBIs in 14 games this season. In his career with the Rays, Lowe boasts a .271 batting average with 24 home runs and 99 RBIs in 203 games.

Kosport Magazine’s Take:

While Lowe’s absence will certainly be felt by the Rays, they have bolstered their bullpen with the return of right-hander Chris Devenski from the injured list. The 33-year-old had been sidelined with right knee tendinitis and will now look to continue his strong performance out of the bullpen.

In 14 innings over nine relief appearances this season, Devenski has posted a 1-1 record with a 7.71 ERA, six walks, and 11 strikeouts. He brings a wealth of experience to the Rays, having played for various teams throughout his career including the Houston Astros, Arizona Diamondbacks, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels, and now Tampa Bay.

The Rays will hope for a speedy recovery for Lowe, but in the meantime, they will rely on DeLuca and other players to step up in his absence. Devenski’s return will provide some much-needed depth to their pitching staff and could prove to be the key to keeping their season on the right track.
