Rising From Amateur Defeat: Jordan Roach’s Pro Debut to Bring Next-level Success

Flyweight Jordan Roach Ready for Professional Debut

Jordan Roach, younger brother of WBA world junior lightweight champion Lamont Roach Jr., is set to make his professional debut on Friday, February 4th at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. This is the same card where his brother will defend his title for the first time on ProBox TV.

Roach’s debut comes after a recent disappointment, where Roscoe Hill secured a spot on the 2024 U.S. Olympic team in Roach’s division. However, Roach is determined to make a fresh start and has been training hard for his professional debut.

“In 2022, I made the USA Boxing team,” Roach shared. “I had to compete in a selection process, but unfortunately, I didn’t make the cut. They chose someone who was barely sparring due to an injury. But I’m not bothered by it. I knew I just had to work even harder.”

After being told he would have a rematch the following year, Roach won his first two fights convincingly, but was later informed that he would have to do a rematch because of a timekeeping error. Despite winning the rematch, he was not given the decision.

Roach’s father and trainer, Lamont Roach Sr., who is also promoting Friday’s event, expresses his disappointment with the situation. He said, “It was disappointing that he had to go through that with USA Boxing. It’s one thing to know you lost, but it’s another thing to have it taken away from you like that.”

But now, Roach is focused on beginning his professional career and proving his skills in the ring. “I’m going to show my level and prove that my opponents are not on the same level as me,” Roach stated. “I’ve always fought high-level opponents since I started boxing. It’s a step down to go pro, but I know I belong at the top.”
