Ben Whittaker stays true to his word and dominates in IBF international title win
Light heavyweight starlet Ben Whittaker didn’t take Ezra Arenyeka’s warnings seriously about showboating and disrespect. But the Welsh fighter showed him what happens to those who don’t play by the rules in their October 30th fight.
Arenyeka was ferocious in the sixth round, hurling his head towards Whittaker’s after the Englishman attempted to direct him to his corner. Whittaker, perhaps realizing his own cockiness, smiled at the infraction.
Referee Bob Williams let this one slide, but in the seventh round, he had to step in when Arenyeka launched a right elbow towards Whittaker after missing with a punch from the same arm.
Kosport Magazine’s Take:
Whittaker showed his skill and dominance throughout the 10-round fight, with a final score of 99-90 (twice) and 100-89 in his favor. Even though Arenyeka tried to play it cool and not fall for Whittaker’s tricks, he was still outmatched and outboxed by the young fighter.
Despite the tension and rough moments in the ring, Whittaker maintained his composure and boxed beautifully. And he walked away with the IBF international title.
Speaking about the fight, Whittaker said, “I knew he was going to be tough. If you saw him at the weigh-in and the press conference, he was fiery and ready for a fight. But I stuck to my game plan and came out with the win.”
Although he didn’t deliver the promised knockout, Whittaker proved that he is a skilled and disciplined fighter, earning the win without compromising his professionalism.
