The WBC Makes a Bold Move: Terence Crawford Declared “Champion in Recess” in Preparation for Upcoming Fight

Kosport Magazine is excited to announce that the World Boxing Council (WBC) has declared Terence Crawford “Champion in Recess” as he prepares to move up to 154 to challenge WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov on August 3rd. This move allows Crawford to maintain his status as the current WBC welterweight champion, with the possibility to return and fight for his belt at any time.

The Crawford vs. Madrimov fight will also serve as a WBC 154-lb final eliminator, making the winner the mandatory challenger for the October fight between WBC/WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora and Errol Spence Jr. This not only adds excitement to the upcoming bouts, but also sets the stage for Crawford to potentially hold three titles at 154 with just two wins.

Kosport Magazine’s Take on Crawford’s Triple Crown Dream

If everything goes according to plan, Crawford could become the undisputed junior middleweight champion with just one more belt to claim. There is a potential for a lucrative rematch with Spence if he defeats Fundora in October, and Crawford could see himself as the undisputed champion with three titles on his resume.

However, it’s not a given that Crawford will defeat Madrimov, who is on another level and could expose Crawford as an aging fighter who only fights once a year. But the possibility of a trilogy fight with Spence for three titles is certainly an enticing one.

But why didn’t the WBC strip Crawford of his welterweight title? Instead, they have given him the “Champion in Recess” designation, allowing him to return to the division at any time. This shows the WBC’s confidence in Crawford and the potential for him to become a champion in multiple weight classes.

If Crawford does decide to make a return to welterweight, his potential opponents are limited. Popular fighter Devin Haney could be a viable option, as he moves up in weight and could provide a good payday for Crawford.

In the meantime, Barrios is the interim welterweight champion and may be elevated to full champion status, further solidifying Crawford’s future return to the division.

Kosport Magazine is excited to see what the future holds for Crawford and his quest for the triple crown. Don’t miss his upcoming fight with Madrimov on August 3rd, and stay tuned for more exciting updates in the world of boxing.
