Hughie Fury Returns And Banks Six Useful Rounds Against Dovbyschenko

Welcome Back, Hughie Fury: The Comeback Trail Continues

After a long and difficult journey, Hughie Fury has finally returned to the ring and proved that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level. On Saturday night, he outpointed Kostiantyn Dovbyschenko over six rounds in Rotherham, marking his first fight since October 2021.

For the former world heavyweight title challenger, this victory may not have made a big splash in the boxing world, but it meant everything to him. Fury has faced numerous health issues throughout his career, including a skin condition and a debilitating bout of long COVID. But despite these challenges, he has never given up on his dream of becoming a world champion.

Under the guidance of his father and trainer, Peter Fury, Hughie has slowly but surely made his way back to the ring. And while his performance against Dovbyschenko may not have been perfect, it was a testament to his determination and resilience.

Peter Fury was pleased with his son’s performance, stating, “I was happy to see him back out there but I was happy with the performance after three years out. I got exactly what I was after. We had a guy who was always in the fight. He had to think for three minutes of every round and the guy [Dovbyschenko] was trying. He had to take punches, block up and he tried a bit of everything.”

But Peter also knows that this is just the beginning of Hughie’s comeback. They are taking things slow and steady, not rushing into any big fights just yet. They understand the importance of rebuilding and regaining confidence after such a long layoff.

And that’s exactly what this fight with Dovbyschenko provided – a platform to build on. Hughie will have another chance to showcase his skills on May 11 in Cardiff, where he will be fighting on the undercard of the world welterweight title fight between Jessica McCaskill and Lauren Price.

Peter Fury is confident that his son will continue to improve with each fight, saying, “Next time, we’ll have no nervous energy. He’s boxing in three weeks. He’ll reflect on what he’s done and then he’ll be able to do things a lot better.”

But he also acknowledges the challenges that come with such a long layoff, stating, “He’s got nothing to learn but it’s the three years out. I tell things as they are. People know who he’s been sparring. It’s only been the last three weeks he started to turn the corner in sparring because he couldn’t get his shots off. When he first started back sparring he was pretty terrible to be honest. He’s been that long out. He’s had three weeks of good sparring with Soloman Dacres. You can see that inactivity is Kryptonite, especially for heavyweight.”
