Brian Mendoza Expects Counterpunches, Body Shots to Lead Tim Tszyu to Win

Brian Mendoza: A Fighter with a Personal Stake in Tszyu-Fundora Showdown

As the boxing world eagerly awaits the highly anticipated Tim Tszyu-Sebastian Fundora pay-per-view headliner on Saturday, March 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, one fighter in particular has a personal stake in the outcome.

Brian Mendoza (22-3), a Premier Boxing Champions’ fighter, knows both main eventers well, having shared the ring with them in the past. In 2023, Mendoza pulled off an upset seventh-round knockout victory over Fundora, who was down on the scorecards before being caught and stopped by Mendoza in dramatic fashion.

Six months later, Mendoza faced Tszyu in Australia and lost a 12-round unanimous decision. Despite the loss, Mendoza displayed tremendous heart and determination, making it to the final bell against the WBO super welterweight champion.

Now, as Tszyu and Fundora prepare to face off in what is expected to be a hard-fought battle, Mendoza predicts that Tszyu will come out on top. “It is an exciting matchup style-wise but I have Tszyu winning this one,” Mendoza told Kosport Magazine. “As long as Tim doesn’t get caught up with Fundora’s volume, he will be sharp with his counter punching and slow down Fundora with his body shots. It should be a fan-friendly fight.”

But Mendoza’s involvement in the event doesn’t end there. He will also be fighting on the card, taking on Serhii Bohachuk (23-1) for the WBC interim super welterweight title. A victory for Mendoza could potentially lead to a rematch with the winner of the main event.

And for the Tszyu-Fundora winner, there is even more at stake. The vacant WBC super welterweight title will be up for grabs, adding even more excitement to an already highly anticipated matchup.

With so much on the line, the Tszyu-Fundora showdown is a must-see event for any boxing fan. And with the added bonus of being the inaugural Premier Boxing Champions’ event to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video, there’s no excuse to miss out on the action.
