Robert Stieglitz wasn’t the most naturally gifted boxer, but his work ethic and dedication propelled him to become a two-time WBO super middleweight titleholder in the late 2000s-early 2010s.
Stieglitz, originally known as Sergey Shtikhlits, was born in the coastal town of Yeysk, Russia, on June 20, 1981. His journey to the top was far from easy, transitioning from football to wrestling and eventually finding his calling in boxing at the age of 15.
Despite facing setbacks early in his boxing career, Stieglitz persevered and found success by winning local tournaments and eventually the Russian championships in 2000, all while pursuing his education.
Transitioning to the professional ranks in 2001, Stieglitz signed with German promoter SES Promotions, solidifying his move to Germany where he felt a strong connection due to his German roots in Yeysk.
