Wolves Left Fuming After Controversial VAR Decision Costs Them Equalizer Against West Ham

It was a heartbreaking end for Wolves as they fell 2-1 to West Ham United in a controversial match on Saturday. The game was marred by a VAR decision that ruled out a stoppage-time equalizer for Wolves, leaving manager Gary O’Neil fuming and describing it as one of the worst decisions he had ever seen.

The match started off in Wolves’ favor, with a deserved lead from a Pablo Sarabia penalty. But in the second half, West Ham came back strong and equalized with a penalty from Lucas Paquetá. Things took a turn for the worse when James Ward Prowse scored a freak goal direct from a corner, putting West Ham ahead.

But Wolves fought back and thought they had secured a point when Maximilian Kilman headed in from a corner in stoppage time. However, referee Tony Harrington consulted VAR and ruled out the goal due to an offside decision against Tawanda Chirewa, who was deemed to be impacting West Ham goalkeeper Łukasz Fabianski’s vision.

Wolves were left stunned and frustrated, with O’Neil and his coaching staff protesting the decision at the final whistle. O’Neil could not understand the call, stating that Fabianski had a clear view of the ball and was not impacted by Chirewa’s positioning.

But the controversy did not end there. West Ham’s winning goal from Ward Prowse was a beautifully curled effort from a corner, leaving O’Neil to compare it to a goal he had not seen since his days in kids’ football.

Despite the loss, Wolves remain in 11th place while West Ham move level on points with Manchester United in seventh. O’Neil believes that the three crazy incidents in the match, including the VAR decision, handed West Ham an undeserved victory.
