Kosport Magazine: Eddie Hearn Open to Co-Promotion with PBC for Pitbull vs. Matias Unification Fight

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing has expressed interest in working with Al Haymon of PBC to put together a highly anticipated unification fight between light welterweight champions Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and Subriel Matias. This potential co-promotion event would be broadcasted on both Amazon Prime and DAZN, making it easily accessible for fans all over the world.

Matias, who currently holds the IBF title, must first defend his belt against undefeated Liam Paro on June 15th. Hearn acknowledges that this will not be an easy fight for Matias and believes Paro has the skills to potentially upset the champion.

Assuming Matias is successful in his title defense, Hearn plans to approach PBC about a potential co-promotion with Matchroom for a unification fight against WBA champion ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. Hearn describes this matchup as a “thrilling fight” between two top contenders from Mexico and Puerto Rico.

However, there are potential roadblocks that could prevent this fight from happening. The first being network rivalries between Amazon Prime and DAZN, who would need to agree to share the event. Additionally, Cruz is aligned with PBC and their new broadcast partner, Amazon, while Matias is with Matchroom and his fights are streamed on DAZN. Hearn also acknowledges that PBC boss Al Haymon will need to be open to working with Matchroom in a joint event.

Despite these challenges, Hearn remains optimistic and believes this fight would be a huge success for both fighters and the sport of boxing. He envisions a co-promotion event with a good gate and crowd, as well as shared PPV revenue for the fighters.

In a recent interview with Tru School Sports, Hearn stated, “If Al Haymon wants something, he’s going to deal with you. If he doesn’t want to, he won’t. But this fight between Matias and Cruz is too good to pass up. It’s not a massive PPV, but it’s going to do a good gate, a good crowd. We’ll share the PPV revenue for the fighters.”

Kosport Magazine will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on any developments regarding this potential co-promotion event. Stay tuned for more exciting news and updates from the world of boxing.
