Adam Azim and Harlem Eubank in Talks for European Super Lightweight Title Fight
Two of British boxing’s most promising fighters, Adam Azim and Harlem Eubank, are in negotiations for a potential fight for Azim’s European super lightweight title. The news was announced by Barry McGuigan, who guides Azim’s career, and Chris Eubank Sr, Harlem Eubank’s uncle, during a recent ring appearance at The O2 Arena.
The announcement came shortly before the highly anticipated British and Commonwealth heavyweight title fight between Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke, which ended in a draw, allowing Wardley to retain his titles. The two fighters also spoke while being aware of the presence of Dalton Smith, Azim’s leading domestic rival, and Florian Marku, who had lost on the undercard to Chris Kongo.
“I’m ready,” said Azim confidently. “This is what I’ve been working towards. He may be a Eubank, but I’m an Azim. It’s going to be an Azim takeover.”
Eubank, on the other hand, seemed less convinced of Azim’s readiness for the fight. “I don’t believe he wants it,” he stated. “His team may be excited, but I know he doesn’t truly want it.”
The fight is expected to take place in London in June, according to Azim’s promoter, Boxxer’s Ben Shalom. “It’s too big of an opportunity to turn down for Adam, but also too good of an opportunity for Harlem,” he explained.
When asked if the fight would be on the same card as the highly anticipated Anthony Yarde and Joshua Buatsi fight, which could also include a rematch between Chris Billam-Smith and Richard Riakporhe, Shalom responded with a cryptic “We’ll see.”
